"We'll get you through this."
I was afraid I would never be well again until the wisdom, experience, and compassion of my internist and primary physician, Dr. Sloan, brought me through a terrible three-month ordeal. When I saw my cardiology team to be cleared for outpatient eye surgery, they sent me for cardioversion and then put me on a potent medication that caused a completely disabling balance disorder. Still with clouded vision in one eye and now unable to walk without support, I then suffered a severe upper respiratory infection that lasted three weeks, robbed me of many nights' sleep, and brought on agitated anxiety. Dr. Sloan made time to listen to my despairing account, discussed appropriate medication therapy with me in depth, and as I was leaving the exam room patted my shoulder with the oh so comforting words, "We'll get you through this." Eventually I did regain clear vision through surgery, and after Dr. Sloan' referred me to physical therapy for the balance disorder he has kept in close touch to continue guiding my progress on all these issues. I can truthfully say that, thanks to the care of this gifted physician, I can once again meet each day with hope.
