Going above and beyond

In July 2022 I sustained an ulnar radial fracture of my left wrist in a fall on a broken sidewalk. In discharging me from the ER, the doctor stressed the importance of seeing a hand surgeon as soon as possible and gave me several referrals. I called these doctors the next day only to be told no appointments were available for more than a week, much too long a time to wait according to the emergency physician. In desperation, I called Dr. Schmitz. He immediately contacted the hand surgeon who had fixed up his wrist when he broke it several years before. Within hours, Dr. Schmitz had secured an appointment for me with his surgeon for the next day. What a relief! The surgeon turned out to be top notch. Although my recovery involved a full year of hand therapy, I am pretty much back to normal and can do most things that I need to do. If Dr. Schmitz had not extended himself on my behalf and I had had to wait a week to see a surgeon, I am not so sure my outcome would be this good. Needless to say, I am grateful to Dr. Schmitz for going above and beyond.
