Dr. Smith was THERE for me, and for my husband, diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer 11 years ago. He recognized my needs as well as my husband's. He referred us to a very good oncologist, who did what she could, but, the prognosis was just about the worst anyone could hear. My husband took the radiation and chemo, and suffered through unbelievable pain, and only lived another 3 1/2 months after diagnosis. Dr. Smith was extremely caring and concerned about me, and made sure I was doing OK. He knew my daughter and son-in-law, and connected with all of us over their adoptions of two Chinese children. I have been essentially healthy all my life, but, have suffered from high blood pressure since I was in my mid-40's. He has kept a close check on that, and, also, on my mental health while I was working through my grief. Within the last year, my blood pressure seemed to be getting more erratic and out of control, and my long-term BP med wasn't working. He kept close tabs on me, and had me coming in to see him every couple of weeks for a while. He eventually referred me to an excellent nephrologist, who is good at figuring out the right meds and the right dosages, and the right times of day. THAT is the true sign of an excellent doctor. He knew when it was time to refer me on to a specialist. The two of them are in contact, and the nephrologist sends him reports, at my request. Dr.Smith is not only clinically excellent, but, he is the doctor that has made me feel as if I were a real person, by talking to me, and making a connection with me. He's the best doctor I've had in my life, and I'm 67 years old, and expect to be going strong, with his help, for a very long time. He seems to know me and what my life is, and has been, and is there for me to work through any medical issues that come up. I trust him totally, and think he's wonderful. Not many doctors have his bedside manner and personality. I left one doctor when he turned his back on me and was looking at my chart and not looking at me or listening to me! Dr. Smith is a relaxed, let's talk, kind of doctor. He's my kind of doctor.
