I have had Type II diabetes for 30 years and for most of that time have managed to keep my A1C right around 7. But within the last two years it has unexplainedly increased to the 8 to 9 range. For a year, I continued to work with Dr. Hartig trying to manage it, but to no avail. We both agreed it was time to see an endocrinologist. That process yielded nothing but frustration. There was no way to get past the front desk people to make an appointment. I finally wrote a letter to the endocrinologist which I shared with Dr. Hartig and which I hand delivered to the endocrinologist’s office. Again I received resistance from the front desk people. I was frustrated because an abdominal CTSCAN for another reason had identified cysts on my pancreas. Those cysts were another reason I wanted an endocrinologist to look at my situation. When I told Dr. Hartig of the resistance I was encountering, he immediately called the endocrinologist (who did not recall having seen the letter) and secured his agreement to accept me as a patient. Dr. Hartig has always proven himself to be a doctor who stays on top of my health concerns but I had not known how strong a patient advocate he could be until this road block at the endocrinologist’s office. I guess I could have just given up and tried another endocrinologist but once I get my mind made up, I can be very determined. Dr. Hartig is tops in my mind.
